Myrtus Communis (Myrtle Tree: leaf and body) extract in Rat Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion injury

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect myrtus communis extract (MCE) against renal I/R injury. Materials and methods: 36 adult males Wistar albino rats, weighing 250-300 g, were divided into six groups rats each. Group 1 designated as sham group. 2 control one. MCE administered via gastric gavage over a period 10 days, dosed at 0.1 mL/kg/day in third group, 0.2 fourth 0.3 fifth 0.5 sixth On 10th day, procedure performed. Results: pathological examination showed that formation hyaline cylinders tubular lumen significantly higher group when compared others (p<0.05). Glomerular Bowman space enlargement statistically lower 5 6 with controls levels tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 1-beta (IL-1β), IL-6, matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8), hydroxyproline, myeloperoxidase (MPO), total oxidant status (TOS) found be increased (p<0.05), while significant reduction seen antioxidant capacity (TAC) superoxide dismutase (SOD) Conclusions: protected kidney tissue This result most likely due properties MCE. is promising natural substance for preventing damage.
